He is committed to the individuality and future of indigenous Italian grapes, specifically Verdicchio in the Marche and Pecorino in Abruzzo. Still lovely and very intact, which inspired them to specialise and produce some of the best aged whites in Italy on the market.

“interestingly,” says Bernett, “what emerges is that the most critical vintages, from a climatic point of view, are surprising in their evolution. This confirms the versatility of this grape variety, its ability to evolve itself over time, assuming unpredictable and unexpected results. ”

Verdicchio, from Castello di Jesi, remains central to Umani Ronchi’s identity. With plantings of 120+ hectares, the estate is the largest family winery producing Verdicchio in Marche. But for Bernetti it’s important to be championing the regions where he lives and cultivates his vines.

“We are reinforcing our presence in Abruzzo too, with a renewed focus on Pecorino. In this context, a newly renovated facility in the region will be ready for the upcoming harvest, marking a significant step in Umani Ronchi’s long-term strategic plan.” He continues, “Percorino, as you see with our Centovie from Abruzzo, is such a unique grape and only from the Marche and Abruzzo.
